Required Textbook
Description and Objectives
We will study Electricity and Magnetism. The topics covered include Electrostatics, Electric Currents and Circuits, Fields of Moving Charges, Magnetic Field, and Electromagnetic Induction. This is an honors class – expect more in-depth coverage and more challenging problems compared with regular Introductory Physics II class.
Textbook
Electricity and Magnetism (3rd edition), Edward Purcell and David Morin, ISBN: 978-1-107-01402-2
Prerequisites
PHYS 2211 or 2231 (Intro Physics I). We will use Multivariable Calculus (MATH 2551) and Differential Equations (MATH 2403), but since these courses are not prerequisites, the instructor and teaching assistant will cover the necessary mathematics. It is not required to have credits for MATH 2551 and 2403.
Complete your homework assignments on paper, then scan your work to a single PDF file (we cannot grade multiple image files or other formats), and upload it to Canvas under the [Assignments] tab.
Make sure your PDF is clear and readable. Any smartphone app should be OK. We have tried Scanner Pro on iOS, and Top Scanner on Android.
Your homework will be graded online, with the score and grader’s comments posted in Canvas.
